The Doors

No – not the band – the new doors that we had installed throughout the house.  I have found something in the do-it-yourself home arena that I truly think that I severely dislike (I won’t go so far as to say that I hate it).  Painting doors sucks!  If it was just a flat door – sure, no problem.  But these six panel doors are a nightmare.  Priming them is a chore in itself because they suck up the paint.  Then there are all of the lines in the grain of the wood and the cutouts for the panels.  It takes forever.  And that’s just for the priming…then the paint has to go on.

All in all the whole process is about zero fun.  One door takes about 3- 4 hours to complete.  I’ve done three including the trim work.  Those that I have completed look immensely better, but wish my luck as I try to complete the remaining nine while Aimee is out of town this weekend.

Stimulation

We stimulated the economy over Memorial Day weekend.  We finally bought a new dish washer, and hopefully this one will even clean everything on the first try.  I also got a new mower which I am excited about.  Now – what to do with the old one

¡Yeay Stimulation!

The Halti

Jack & Frank have a tendency to pull when we’re out on our walks. Now, they’re small enough that it’s no problem for us, but it’s still a pain (and they’re constantly choking). I decided to see what we could do about it.

After a co-worker recommendation for halters I talked to the lead trainer at PetSmart I ended up with the Halti. Tonight was the first go-round and geez – what a sight. I didn’t know that these dogs could flail and thrash about like that. What a sight! They’ll get used to it eventually, but I guess Aimee and I will keep getting good laughs until that time.

Kicking

So I was able to feel the baby for the first time on Saturday night! Aimee has been feeling it for a while now, and it seems to be on a pretty regular schedule. This time – when I could feel it – was the first real “kick” that Aimee has recognized. I’ve got to admit that it was pretty neat.

On another note, we worked on our registry on Saturday. Yet again – overwhelming. We’re making progress, though. The next decision is what do we want to do about car seating…do we accept that we’ll have to buy multiple seats or do we get a fully convertible one that goes from infant through toddler.

BP MS 150

I rode the MS150 bike ride last weekend from Houston to Austin. I hadn’t participated in it since 1993. I have riden the Dallas MS150 a few times since then, but it was nice to take part in such a large ride again – I was tag number 13706 out of almost 14000 riders.

The ride was good – windy as could be – but good none the less. I had only done about 70 miles total for training, and this was – how should I say – inadequate. I still finished with 158 miles on my odometer and no sags. The wind is what really made this one tough, though. I do not think that I would have been hurting so bad had it not been for that.

Anyway, it was fun!

It’s finally done

My bathroom remodel is finally finished. I thought that I’d share the photos with anybody that might care…

OK, OK – it took much longer than planned, but as for actual work time it only lasted about 10 days. Most of the lag time from start to completion was picking what was going in!

Two Weeks Away

Wow – my bike ride from Houston to Austin is rapidly approaching (173.6 miles). It’s only two weeks away! Now is the time to start getting concerned. I have definitely not trained enough, and I’m going to skip another ride today…it’s frickin’ cold outside! Tomorrow will much better, warmer, and not wet. So – that settles it – I’ve got to get out tomorrow.

For today then…TILING. My goal is to get all of the tub surround tile up. Let’s get to it shall we?

Sonogram!

We had our first sonogram appointment on Thursday. I’ve got to admit, seeing the baby for the first time was really exciting. It seemed to finally make it real for me. They say that a mother becomes a mother as soon as she finds out that she is pregnant and a father becomes a father when the baby is born. After seeing our baby I feel like I’m finally on my way.

So – the report was good…two arms, two legs, brain, etc. It was pretty amazing the detail that you can see. All four chambers of the heart, two sides of the brain…it’s pretty neat! Since we’re not finding out the baby’s gender before the birth we looked away when the ultrasound tech was looking in that area, but we both think that we know. Of course, we’ll still have that surprise on the big day.

Anyway, here are some pictures of Baby Heiser:

The Longest Remodel

OK, it’s not really the longest remodel, but it seems like it’s taking a really long time. I finally got all of the floor tile down this weekend, and I’ll grout tonight. Aimee and I decided that the floor would really just look better if we set it on the diagonal. You know what that means – that’s right – tons of tile cuts. Luckily I bought a cheapo tile saw which seemed to do the trick, but that doesn’t change the number of cuts that were needed. I cut tile for five hours on Saturday and then set it for another two after dinner. Now I think that I have tennis elbow!

It looks really nice, though, and hopefully the grout will just make it look better. So what do I have left to do?

  • Grout
  • Caulk the base of the tub
  • Install new base boards
  • Cut and set the tub surround tile
  • Install the new vanity, basin, and medicine cabinet (if and when The Great Indoors finally stocks it)
  • Find and install the new toilet

Easy, right? We’ll see.
